Image talk:Gov Jim Doyle.jpg

MY MESSAGE:
Dear Sir or Madam: I was wondering if you could provide me with or direct me to a photo of the governor for use on the Wikipedia project. Wikipedia is a non-profit encyclopedia created by volunteers. Having an image of the governor would make his article more complete. The image will need to be released into the public domain so that there will be no debate over its use. I hope you can assist me. Thank you.
NOTICE THAT I TOLD THEM I NEED PUBLIC DOMAIN AND THEY STILL RESPONDED WITH A PIC

IF THAT'S NOT PROOF THAT THE GOV'S OFFICE GAVE ME PERMISSION TO USE THIS, THEN I GIVE UP.

- WP:AGF. Failing evidence to the contrary, we should accept the user's word that this email exchange is accurate. I'm not sure that it is sufficient, though. They need to say the magic words, "we release this image into the public domain" somewhere along the line. Through four levels of email, there's no guarantee that the lackey who actually provided the image knows what public domain is or that the image needed to be PD. BigDT 06:22, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Um... no we shouldn't. That's an absurd over-extention. In situations which involve the possibility of being illegal, we should always err on the side of caution, not the side of assuming that someone is not lying. -Amarkov blahedits 06:25, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
- Why? I've uploaded 20 or so photos tagged with PD-self, GFDL-self, or one of the CC licenses. (I go back and forth on what I like to use.) Do you assume good faith on those or do you assume that I am lying? I probably stole a camera from a Tech fan so that I could post his pictures on Wikipdia. An established user said that he had this conversation ... that's good enough for me. I don't think that the conversation demonstrates that the image is acceptable (they need to say the magic words), but to assume he made it up is silly. BigDT 06:59, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
