Happiny (ピンプク? Pinpuku in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Happiny is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. The purpose of Happiny in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The name Happiny is a portmanteau of the words happiness and tiny. The Japanese name Pinpuku is derived from the English word pink and the Japanese word for good fortune (福 fuku?).
The English name Happiny was confirmed at the 2007 American International Toy Fair in New York City.[3]

[edit] Biological characteristics
Happiny somewhat resembles Nurse Joy, with 3 round curls on her forehead and a pigtail on top of her hair (although Nurse Joy has two pigtails).
Some information about Happiny's behavior has been revealed in CoroCoro magazine. The egg-like object on its belly is not an egg, as many have thought; instead it is a stone that Happiny carries to mimic its evolved form, Chansey, which does carry an actual egg. It is speculated that this is why it is called the "Playhouse Pokémon."
[edit] In the video games
Happiny was officially revealed on September 12, 2006, as the pre-evolved form of Chansey to appear in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It evolves when it levels up while holding the Round Stone. The item is based on the idea that Happiny carries a stone to imitate an egg.
It has been revealed that the player receives Happiny in an egg that is given to his or her character (compare with Togepi and Wynaut). Happiny can also be obtained by breeding a Chansey or Blissey with Luck Incense.
