Heinz Dürr

Heinz Dürr (b. July 16, 1933 in Stuttgart) is a German entrepreneur and stockholder of the Stuttgart-based Dürr AG.
He was chairman of the board at AEG from 1980 to 1990. From 1991 on, he was president of Deutsche Bundesbahn and Director-General of the Deutsche Reichsbahn of the GDR. When these state-owned enterprises became the new, private Deutsche Bahn AG in 1994, he became the first chairman of the board of the new enterprise, a position he kept until 1997. Heinz Dürr is credited with the invention of the weekend discount ticket, which led to a notable increase in local railway traffic in Germany.
