Helsinge is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Frederiksborg County on the north coast of the island of Zealand (Sjælland) in eastern Denmark. It is the largest municipality in the county area-wise, covering an area of 146 km². It has a total population of 19,473 (2005), but in the summer months the population grows to over 36.000 people. Its mayor is Claus Lange, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.
The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Helsinge.
Neighboring municipalities are Græsted-Gilleleje to the northeast, Frederiksværk to the southwest, and Skævinge and Hillerød to the south. To the north is the Kattegat. A significant portion of its southwestern border is defined by Lake Arre (Arresø), Denmark's largest lake.
The municipality was created in 1970 due to a kommunalreform ("Municipality Reform") that combined the former municipalities Helsinge/Valby/Mårum, Vejby/Tibirke, Ramløse/Annisse.
By January 1, 2007 Helsinge municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be combined with existing Græsted-Gilleleje municipality to form the new Gribskov municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 278 km² and a total population of 40,409 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Hovedstaden ("Capital Region").
