If we could add a little more to the Catoblepas article, this might be a good picture to link from. It's an interesting heraldic beastie. |
[edit] Gozdawa coat of arms
- I quote Piotr Pawel Bajer: " The tribal system influenced all the countries included in the Polish Commonwealth. As a result, the nobility consisting of more than forty thousand families, used about seven thousand arms including family coats of arms of Western origin." [1].
- " In 1921, the first Constitution of the Polish Republic after World War I finally terminated all privileges of nobility and forbade the usage of arms (Article 96). The later Constitution of 1935 (Article 81, ยง2) cancelled this paragraph, so de facto this meant the restitution of some old laws regarding the use of arms and honorary titles. However, the privileges were cancelled by another paragraph of the same Constitution which says that all citizens are equal by law. Such situation remains to this today. "
