Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux Metropolitan Area

Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux is a metropolitan statistical area, composed of two Acadiana region parishes Lafourche and Terrebonne, located in southern Louisiana. As of 2004, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates the total population of the metropolitan area to be 198,680 making it the fifth most populous in the state.
The parish seat of Lafourche Parish, Thibodaux, is located 15 miles NNW from the parish seat of Terrebonne Parish, Houma. Bayou Cane is a suburb of Houma that is commonly referred to by locals as Houma. The Census designated area of "Houma-Bayou Cane-Thibodaux" is more commonly referred to by locals as the "Houma-Thibodaux" area.
The major road through that region of Louisiana, the east-west U.S. Highway 90, passes directly between Houma and Thibodaux.
