Ile Aux Galets

Ile aux Galets, also known as Skilligallee or Skilligalee Island, is located in northeast Lake Michigan approximately 7.0 miles (11.3 km) northwest of Cross Village, Michigan. It has been the site of a lighthouse operated by the U.S. government since 1850. The current 58-foot (17.5-m) light tower was built in 1888 and equipped with a fourth order Fresnel lens.
The islet and lighthouse were occupied by lightkeepers from 1850 until 1969. In the latter year the Fresnel lens was retired and replaced by a modern automated lantern.
The islet is home to a significant colony of ring-billed gulls. Its name, given by early French explorers, means "Isle of Pebbles."
