Illinois State Route 1 → Illinois 1 or Illinois Route 1. There seems to be agreement this article's at the wrong title, but it's not so clear-cut as to which the correct one is. The signage uses the first form; the state DOT's website more often uses the latter. (Neither uses the current title at all, it seems.) See also the naming convention discussion on the edge of forever, which is using this as a "case study" of sorts.) (Also worth a look if one has any interest in the common names NC.)
