Invisible Kid (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Invisible Kid" is the fifth song of Metallica's most recent album, St. Anger.
The lyrics are about a child who isolates himself from the world, thereby creating his own world. He doesn't want to show up, but he can't bear the loneliness. Although he has chosen the aforementioned life from choice he soon realizes he can't stay isolated forever, and needs company and/or human contact (as pointed out by the lyrics "I'm okay, just go away / Into distance let me fade / I'm okay, just go away / I'm okay, but please don't stray too far"). He does not want sympathy ("Oh, can't you see that he's not here? / He doesn't want the attention you give") and yet still no one can understand him, as adults merely see him as a "good boy". Furthermore, the lyrics discuss an idea about a wasted life ("Open your heart, I'm beating right here / Open your mind I'm being right here").
