Ipatinga Futebol Clube is a Brazilian football club, that hosts in Ipatinga, Minas Gerais. Founded on May 21, 1998.

The club was founded by entrepreneur Itair Machado, former athlete of Atlético Mineiro and Cruzeiro, and at the time sponsor of Social Futebol Clube of Coronel Fabriciano city (a neighbor city of Ipatinga), with the support of Gercy Mathias, president of the amateur club Novo Cruzeiro Futebol Clube, amateur club of Ipatinga's neighborhood of Novo Cruzeiro; Cosme Mattos, former sportsman; Doctor Rinaldo Campos Soares, president of Sistema Usiminas; Doctor Ronaldo Monteiro de Souza, presidente of Usisaúde, and Francisco Carlos Delfino (also know as "Chico Ferramenta"), then mayor of Ipatinga. Together, they profissionalized Novo Cruzeiro Futebol Clube and renamed the club as Ipatinga Futebol Clube.
After establishing a team of professional players the administrators entered the team to the state championship where the team came in second place in the second division in 1998. In the following year, the team competed in the first division, coming in second place in the 2nd Module of the division. As a result, in 2000 Ipatinga Futebol Clube played against the state's elite teams throughout the 1st Module of the 1st Division, ending the competition in 4th place. After all, it only took two years for Ipatinga F.C. to become a part of the state's elite soccer teams.
The team now participates in numerous copetitions country wide. The most popular and important championships are "Copa do Brazil" (Brazil Cup) and "Campeonato Mineiro" (State Championship of Minas Gerais).
The soccer club quickly demonstrated their abilities to be an aggressive competitor among the states elite teams. Seven years after its foundation, the team surprisingly won the state title in 2005, defeating the traditional soccer clubs known country wide. To prove that their success wasn’t something temporary and spontaneous, the team almost won the state title the following year. Due to irregular rules, which remain a part of the state championship of Minas Gerais, the team came in second only because of a difference of 1 point (equivalent to one goal). However, Ipatinga F.C. qualified to enter the Brazil Cup, the second most important national title in Brazil. By reaching the semifinals, the team won against Botafogo and Santos, which in that same year (2006) the two clubs had both won 1st place titles in their state championship. Unfortunately, Ipatinga was disqualified for a tie and a loss against Flamengo, which is one of the oldest and most popular team in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Shortly after the championship was over, three players and the coach of Ipatinga transferred over to Flamengo. Following the past events, Ipatinga finished their best years coming in third place in one of the series in the Campeonato Brasileiro, the country’s top championship. Eventually, Ipatinga became known for being one of the forty biggest professional soccer clubs in Brazil.

Ipatinga's stadium is Estádio Municipal Epaminondas Mendes Brito, usually known as Ipatingão, built in 1982, with a maximum capacity of 35,000 people. The stadium is considered Minas Gerais's third most important (importance by size).

- The club colors are the same colors as the city of Ipatinga's.
- Ipatinga's mascot is a tiger, and was chosen in a popular contest. The tiger had 7948 votes, in second the eagle had 2529 votes, in third the cat had 846 votes, in fourth the parakeet had 713 votes, and in fifth the parrot had 202 votes.
- Ipatinga used to be known as Cruzeirinho (Small Cruzeiro), or Filial do Cruzeiro (Cruzeiro Branch), due to the large number of borrowed players from Cruzeiro Esporte Clube.
