[edit] Plot
The story revolves around a struggling actor Anandan (Mohanlal) who is befriended by an upcoming grassroots leader and screenwriter Thamilchelvam (Prakash Raj). Married to Pushpa, Anandan finds it tough for the ends to meet and sends Pushpa back to home-town. As he is able to make his mark, He pulls in Selvam also into the movie as a Lyrist. Both start to grow rapidly. Anandan is dedicated to acting, while Selvam keeps dreaming of acquiring power to help the masses. Pushpa dies and Anandan is heart-broken. As Anandan grows in popularity, his reputation becomes instrumental in helping Thamilchelvam and his party's publicity machine, to woo potential voters for the upcoming elections. However, after the death of the party's leader Annadurai (Nasser), both Anandan and Thamilchelvam find themselves in contention for the party's top position, and an inevitable fallout results. Kalpana, a look-alike of Pushpa is a struggling actress and Anandan takes interest in her, much against the wishes of his wife, Ramani. Eventually, the fallout between the one-time friends turns so bitter that Anandan is now standing against Selvam and contests in elections. Anandan later becomes Chief Minister and Selvam is no longer a big-power. When Anandan sleeps and never wakes up, Selvam gets to know it. He revisits the very place where Anandan and himself planned their big-exploits.
