It Ends Tonight is the 3rd single from The All-American Rejects album Move Along. Contrary to their usual style, the song is a ballad. During a July 2006 airing of the PBS series Soundstage, the group revealed that the song was not written about a girl, but rather "a dude". The single peaked at #8 in the Billboard Magazine Hot 100 making the band's third top 20 hit. Due to the song's popularity, sales for Move Along the album are starting to increase. It skyrocketed the album from #88 to #47 the week of November 8th (2006). This is the band's most successful single in the U.S.
The video premiered in the United States on August 28, 2006 on TRL.
The single was released in the United Kingdom on September 25 2006.
This song was featured on All My Children on February 6, 2007.
This song was featured on Smallville on Episode Arrow. It was also on the trailer for Smallville
Portions of the song were featured in promotional advertisements for the SciFi Channel's Battlestar Galactica Season 3 episode, "Rapture".
The song has surprisingly sudden hit on "the list" with Matty and Renee in Australia, A year after the album "Move along" was released.

There are two ways the lyrics can be interpreted: The ending of a relationship, or simply starting a new chapter in one's life.

In the music video Ritter is in front off a fireworks store. The band pulls up in a conversion van. Tyson goes inside and steals a lot of fireworks as two female clerk aw him. Tyson walks out as the band plays in the back of a truck stop. Chris lights a firework and Tyson joins in. Many truck drivers and the clerk show up. In the end it turns into day and the song ends.
