Country punk

Il Country punk (o Cow punk), è un sottogenere del Punk rock che origina negli anni ottanta in California, specialmente a Los Angeles e fonde il Punk rock al Country, nel sound, nei temi, nell'atteggiamento e nello stile, ed è stato il precursore del Country rock degli anni novanta.
Il look è ispirato e molto simile a quello dei gruppi Psychobilly britannici e si è sviluppato direttamente dall'influenza di band come The Cramps e The Gun Club con pochi legami diretti al movimento britannico.
Le band associate al Country Punk includono Jason and the Scorchers, Blood On The Saddle, Rubber Rodeo, The Lazy Cowgirls, The Screamin' Sirens, Frank Black and the Catholics, Tex and the Horseheads ed altri. I Social Distortion invece, mentre inizialmente erano improntati su un Melodic Hardcore Punk, si lasciarono influenzare dal Country punk nei tardi anni ottanta.
Altra band collegata al movimento è quella dei The Mekons.
Un altro esempio di Country punk può essere considerato l' album di k.d. lang che include in parte il sound Country punk, per poi sfociare nel Country più tradizionale.
L'influenza del Contry punk puo essere riconosciuta anche in band come Throw Rag, Reverend Horton Heat e The Supersuckers e anche in qualche traccia dei White Stripes.
