Jabez Delno Hammond

Jabez Delno Hammond (1778 - 1855) was an American author and politician, born in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
He practiced medicine in Vermont, but afterward studied law and followed that profession at Cherry Valley, New York. He was a Democratic member of the United States Congress in 1815 - 1817, a State senator in 1817 - 1821, and in 1825 was made a commissioner in the settlement of the claims of New York State against the Federal Government.
He was elected county judge at Albany in 1838, where he had lived since 1822, and he was one of the regents of New York University from 1845 until his death.
