Jason Gram (born 27 April 1984) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League.
[edit] Overview
Gram was recruited to the Brisbane Lions in the 2001 AFL Draft as a late first-round selection and finally made his debut during the 2003 season. Gram's nickname is 'Grammy' , but some fans have dubbed him the "G Tram", a play on team mate Fraser Gehrigs "G Train" nickname. Finding it hard to get a regular game, he moved to his home state of Victoria to play for the St Kilda Football Club. He debuted in 2004 with the club (midway through the season) but injury kept him out for extended periods. Another patchy season in 2005 followed but he showed signs of what was to come with a 19 disposal performance against his old club, Brisbane.
In 2006 Gram finally cemented his spot in the lineup due to the premature retirement of Aussie Jones, playing every match in a similar role running off the half-back line. Gram showed dash and creativity of the backline, his style of play placing him in the league-wide top 5 for running bounces. He had a career high 33 disposals against Port Adelaide, and kicked three first quarter goals the following week against Richmond, and ended up with four for the match. He was considered by many commentators to be an outside chance for All Australian selection in 2006, but missed out. At the conclusion of the season it was announced Gram had signed a new 2 year contract with St Kilda.
Gram's standing as a football star of the future gained further momentum when he finished second in the 2006 St Kilda Best and Fairest to Nick Riewoldt. Most recently, he has been offered the coveted Number 1 guernsey number, vacated by the retirement of Justin Peckett, which he has accepted and will wear into the 2007 season.
