[edit] Biography
Joey is the best friend of Danny Tanner who recruits him along with Jesse to raise his three young daughters. It is revealed that Joey and Danny first became best friends on February 23, 1968 when they were around eleven years old, a student was harassing Danny so Joey insulted the student in Danny's defense. When the other student told a teacher, Danny denied that Joey insulted the other student, preventing Joey from getting in trouble. Since both Joey and Danny saved each other, they became best friends.
Joey makes his living as a professional comedian, in which he has performances during his tours of various clubs. His most notable appearances were on Star Search and a show with Wayne Newton. He is also well-known for his impressons of Popeye, Bullwinkle, Scooby-Doo, Daffy Duck, Tasmanian Devil and many other cartoon characters. He can also do impressons of various celeberties such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bob Hope, Marlon Brando, and many others. Along with being a comedian, Joey also has busniess ventures with his friend and housemate, Jesse. They entered the advertising agency together as ad executives, before starting their own agency for a brief time. Joey then goes on to host a children's television show, "The Ranger Joe Show". After being fired due to budget cuts from the station, he and Jesse start a radio career as DJ's of the show, "The Rush Hour Renegades."
In his personal life, Joey has several relationships with various people throughout the series, but none of them turn out to be very serious. In addition, we also learn about his family especially his father who was in the armed forces and was a very domineering and serious person. Joey never had a very good relationship with his father mainly due to his career and his goals, but they eventually reconcile.
Joey also has a big interest in cartoons and other children memboralia. He can sometimes be seen wearing pajamas and slippers with a character of a children's show on it. He also enjoys hockey and is an avid Red Wings fan, as he is also seen wearing a Red Wings jersey or t-shirt during the series. A further look, however, shows Joey to be quite multi-talented. He has a pilot's license and can fly a two-seater, out of which Jesse skydives the day of his wedding. Also on "Wake Up, San Francisco" he answers a question about cartoon violence with professorial mastery. It's also later revealed that he has a teaching license as he substitutes for Michelle's class a few times.
Along with his comical side, Joey can also give quite good advice at times. There are also times he tries too hard in serious situations such as when he once became so fierce in preparing for a hockey game that he scared Michelle. Also, on several occasions, he overdid the comedy part of his work with Jesse in an ad agency. It is the warm, sensitive, occasionally naïve Joey that the family loves. Joey also expresses how grateful he is to live with the Tanner's because he was an only child and wished to be part of The Brady Bunch. The Tanner family for the most part enjoys Joey's child-like behavior including Jesse, the tough guy who at times cannot stand Joey's comedy but feels like Joey is a brother. Their relationship is best described as the rocker rebel older brother and the comedic immature little brother, even though Joey is 6 years older than Jesse.
His catchphrase, used mainly in his stand-up act, is "Cut-It-Out!", accompanied by hand gestures.
