[edit] History
In 1944, Junior Chamber International was formed in Mexico City, Mexico expanding the Jaycees internationally.
National Organizations federated to JCI are active in more than 6,000 chapters located in more than 100 nations and territories.
The JCI Headquarters was established in 1951 and was located in Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A. (1969-2004). In 2004, the JCI Headquarters was relocated to Chesterfield, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis where the first local organization was founded.
The 61st JCI World Congress was held in Seoul, Korea, on November 12-18, 2006. The winners of the Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) program are announced each year at the JCI World Congress. The program honors up to ten young individuals who best exemplify the finest attributes of the world's young people. JCI also hosts four regional conferences (known as an Area Conference) each year to conduct its business and training as well as address items of concern and global issues. During 2006, these conferences were held in Monastir, Tunisia; Takamatsu, Japan; Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadaloupe; and Tallinn, Estonia.
JCI divides the management of the National Organizational Members (NOMs) into four areas:
- Area A - Africa & Middle East
- Area B - Asia & Pacific
- Area C - Americas & The Caribbean
- Area D - Europe
"Be better." Members come from a vast range of occupational and business backgrounds, all with one common aim - to meet like-minded individuals, share their aspirations and learn new skills which will bring success in their personal and business lives. If you are looking to meet people, develop yourself and get involved in some worthwhile activities then JCI is a great place to do it.
