Junior Varsity
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the United States, Junior Varsity is the level of sports teams below Varsity in high school and college sports. Nearly all Junior Varsity players are in their freshman and sophomore years in school. Especially skilled or physically mature freshmen and sophomores may compete at the Varsity level. At larger schools, there are often two Junior Varsity teams, abbreviated JV1 and JV2 or JV and freshmen. Often JV2 will be the lower of the two teams, making JV1 the stepping stone to Varsity. Cheerleading in schools is categorized by this way too as well as other sports such as football, basketball, soccer, and lacrosse.
