[edit] Plot
Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds), an overweight high school student, is in love with his best friend, Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart). He confesses his feelings to her and is publicly humiliated when she doesn't reciprocate them. Ten years later, Chris is a handsome success, with a thriving career as a record producer in Los Angeles and a reputation as a ferocious womanizer. He is working with Samantha James (Anna Faris), an up-and-coming pop singer with whom he had relations in the past, but "ended up in the hospital" from her wild antics. On the duo's "business" trip to Paris, Samantha sets her private jet on fire by forgetting to remove the tin foil from her microwave dinner. This causes an emergency landing in New Jersey, right near Chris' hometown. He takes her to his old house for the night, causing him to face the humiliating high school years he left behind, as well as deal with his unresolved feelings for Jamie. Chris refuses to give up wooing Jamie, despite a rivalry with ladykiller Dusty (Chris Klein) for her affections.

Samantha James: Wait a minute, am I being Punk'd? Where's Ashton? Ashton? Oh my God, you totally got me!
Samantha James: This is so romantic that you brought me home to meet your mom. Is this one of your clever little plans?
Chris Brander: Yes, I was planning you'd set the plane on fire.
Dusty Dinkleman: Hey, have fun with Jamie, cause I know I will.
Mike Brander: Raise your hand if your brother's a homo!
Samantha James: You and I are gonna be the greatest musical manager team since Jessica Simpson and her father only you and I get to "mreow" and they can't, 'cause it's illegal. I looked it up.
Mr. Palamino: How did you lose all that weight? Like that retard from Subway?!
Samantha James: Your names are Clark and Darla? That is so cute. I just wanna eat you both up. (rah rah rah)
Chris Brander (slurred): So long, Sucktown! Kiss my ass!
Chris Brander: This town is full of losers and I'm pulling out to win!

[edit] Making of the film
The movie was filmed in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (with many scenes being filmed in nearby Moose Jaw) in the middle of winter. This is the first Hollywood film to be shot almost entirely in Saskatchewan.[citation needed] With the popular Canadian CTV comedy series Corner Gas also filmed south of Regina in Rouleau, the film industry in Saskatchewan made significant gains in the North American film market from 2003 to the present day 2007. Fred Ewanuick, who played Clark, Chris's best friend, co-stars in "Corner Gas" as Hank. Corner Gas semi-regulars Cavin Cunningham and Mike O'Brien also play small roles in the film. The Brander family home is located on Albert Street between Regina & College Avenues.
