Kenneth Ray Wright (b. 31 May 1940) was convicted on September 20, 1969 in Lee County, Florida of first degree murder in the sexual assault, murder and mutilation of 8-year-old Camellia Jo Hand.
Born in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Wright amassed a record of incarceration for crimes of petty thievery, breaking and entering, and indecent assault. In 1968, he moved to Ocoee, Florida. On April 10, 1969, he abducted, assaulted, murdered and mutilated Hand as she made her way to school.
Sentenced to life in prison, Wright, professing himself a "changed man" in an interview with Central Florida author Samuel Roen in 1994, lobbied the Florida Department of Corrections for parole regularly, citing his model prison record and successful therapy in overcoming his sexual aberrations. The Florida Department of Corrections advises that Wright was transferred to the Kansas Department of Corrections under the Interstate Corrections Compact on November 8, 1996, and remains in custody. Wright is eligible for parole review in 2008.
