Kilometres per hour
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kilometres per hour (American spelling: kilometers per hour) is a unit of both speed (scalar) and velocity (vector). The symbol is km·h−1 or km/h but is sometimes, though incorrectly, abbreviated to "kph" (see also: mph). It is often spoken and sometimes written as klicks or kays (K's) in slang usage.
By definition, an object travelling at a speed of 1 km·h−1 in a straight line for an hour would move 1 kilometre.
Although much more common in everyday usage than m/s, it is not an SI unit (because the hour isn't).

- 3.6 km·h−1 ≡ 1 m·s−1, the SI derived unit of speed, metre per second
- 1 km·h−1 ≈ 0.277 78 m·s−1
- 1 km·h−1 ≈ 0.621 37 mph ≈ 0.911 34 feet per second
- 1 knot ≡ 1.852 km·h−1 (exactly)
- 1 mile = 1.609344 km (~1.61 km)[1]
- km/h = ~1.61 * mph[2]

- ^ Converting a mile to kilometres: with 1 inch = 2.54 cm, centimeters per mile = 5280 ft * 12 inches/ft * 2.54 cm/inch = 160934.4 cm, then dividing by 100_000 cm in 1 km, 1 mile = 1.609344 km.

- Examples: 50 mph ~= 81 km/h, 55 mph = 89 km/h, 74 mph =119 km/h,

-
- 100 mph = 161 km/h, 120 mph = 193 km/h, 135 mph = 217 km/h,
- 140 mph = 225 km/h, 150 mph = 241 km/h, 175 mph = 282 km/h, etc.)
