King Saud University (جامعة الملك سعود) is Saudi Arabia's oldest and premier university, located in the capital Riyadh. The university was founded by King Saud in 1957, and was renamed Riyadh University by King Faisal before reverting to the original name in 1982.^{[citation needed]} It was created to meet Saudi Arabia's shortage of skilled workers. Today the school has over 70,000 students, both male and female, although, with the exception of medical students, female students attend a different campus.

The school's current main campus was constructed in the 1980s by Blount International, Inc., a construction firm led by Winton M. Blount, after the firm was awarded the world's then largest fixed-price contract in history for the sum of approximately $2 billion.^{[citation needed]}

The Dean of Student Affairs is Fahd Al-Musnad, while the Vice-Dean is Muhammad Al-Bishr.

Although primarily for Saudi students, the University also offers foreigners the opportunity to enroll in the College of Education or Arts, subject to certain criteria.

The University offers students housing within the student housing complex (Sakan At-Tulab), currently managed by Faisal Al-Turky. Saudi students must however make a payment of around 400$ each semester to live in student housing, while foreign students are given housing with no charge.
