Kvalsund is a municipality in the county of Finnmark, Norway. As of 2004 its mayor is Ragnar Olsen, who represents the Norwegian Labour Party.

The Norse form of the name was Hvalsund. The first element is hvalr 'whale', the last element is sund n 'strait, sound'.

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1987). It shows three salmons.
