Laura Martinozzi

Laura Martinozzi (May 27, 1639 in Fano-July 19, 1687 in Rome) was one of the Mazarinettes - the seven nieces Cardinal Mazarin brought to France from Italy so that he might arrange advantageous marriages for them.
Her mother, Laura, was Mazarin's eldest sister. Her father, Hieronymous Martinozzi, was an Italian noble. In 1655, she married Alfonso IV d'Este, Duke of Modena. They had two children:
- Maria Beatrice d'Este (1658-1718)
- Francesco II d'Este (1660-1694)
In 1673, her daughter married the Duke of York (later James II of England). It was the birth of their son, James Francis Edward Stuart, or more to the point the fact that he would be raised a Catholic, that precepitated the Glorious Revolution.
