The following is a list of episodes from the anime .hack//Sign. The first episode aired on April 4, 2002.

Tsukasa wakes up to find himself in a dungeon in The World, but he has no idea why he is there, or who he is to begin with. The situation gets worse when he discovers he is not able to log out and is trapped in the game. 
Mimiru and Bear. "Guardian" April 11, 2002 2
Mimiru and Bear become concerned about Tsukasa because of his inability to log out, meanwhile the Crimson Knights start to see him as an illegal character. Tsukasa decides to meet Mimiru and Bear and show them his guardian.

BT points out the possibility of Tsukasa being related to the legendary item, the Key of the Twilight as Sora thinks the same thing. Bear tells Subaru that Tsukasa may be just a victim in the current situation. 
Subaru at Mac Anu. "Wanted" April 24, 2002 4
Tsukasa's guardian has been attacking characters as he doesn't have full control over it. Wanting to talk with him Subaru gives an order to make Tsukasa a wanted on all servers of The World

Tsukasa is now in hiding, learning how to get full control of his guardian. Silver Knight and Sora plot a double cross to lure Tsukasa out, and trap him, and eventually capturing him, unbeknownst to Bear, Mimiru, or even Subaru.

In captivity, Subaru has a conversation with Tsukasa and finds out just how real The World has become to him. She decides to free him on his own but they get interrumped as Sora arrives to rescue him. She is intrigued by the wavemaster, and decides to find out more about him. 
Mimiru and A20 in a dungeon. "Reason" May 15, 2002 7
Mimiru meets an inexperienced player named A20, and helps her to learn the ways of The World. Through her Mimiru answers her own question of why she plays the game.

Wanting to meet up with Tsukasa once more, Mimiru sends him a mail and asks him to meet her at a certain place. She intends to wait there, however long, till he appears. BT meets Crim and ask for his help to search the Key of the Twilight
Mimiru gives comfort to Tsukasa after the death of the Puchiguso. "Epitaph" May 29, 2002 9
The investigation over the Key of the Twilight begins, and it seems they will get the help of a hacker named Helba. Tsukasa encounters a player who asks him to watch her Puchiguso, which turns out to be sick.

Bear deals with being an insufficient father as BT tells him that may be the reason of his concern about Tsukasa. Subaru gets closer to Tsukasa and BT and Crim delve further into the clues left behind on the BBS concerning the Key of the Twilight
Tsukasa, Mimiru, and Bear form a party to participate in an event. "Party" June 12, 2002 11
Mimiru and Bear decide to do an online quest and forms a party with Tsukasa. Sora also decides to come after Tsukasa while he is doing the quest. 
In real life, Tsukasa's father unplugs the life support machine. "Entanglement" June 19, 2002 12
Tsukasa is shocked to see Aura mysteriously covered in vines as Morganna asks him about going back to the real world, and if he really wants to. Bear and Subaru discuss what will happen to Tsukasa's player when and if he wakes up. 
The Twilight Eye. "Twilight Eye" June 26, 2002 13
The players have figured out how to open the Twilight Eye, and going to follow the path it will open. BT and Crim are going in, but BT is ploting something with Sora. With the help of Helba, Bear, Mimiru and Tsukasa are able to follow the path too.

After opening the Eye BT and Crim follows the path into a hiden area and they begin their search. Bear, Mimiru and Tsukasa eventually follow and also make it into the same place. What the players find there is not the Key but rather a AI version of "Harald Hoerwick". After speaking to him the place begins to break apart.

Recap Episode. There're a few new scenes, but most is flashbacks to previous episodes. 
Subaru and Tsukasa together. "Depth" July 17, 2002 16
After the attack in ep 14, Tsukasa awakes in Morganna's domain, he seems to be find, and learns he cannot die in this place. Because of this he begins to doubt of his own existence. Tsukasa meets up with Subaru and they have a conversation where she reassures him of his situation. 
BT in real life. "Conflict" July 24, 2002 17
BT asks Crim to meet outside of the game but gets rejected, and she vents his anger on Subaru. Afterwards she encounters some characters who want her help. She joins them only to find out they tricked her. She is saved by Tsukasa and the meaning of her name is revealed. 
Subaru disbands the Crimson Knights. "Declaration" July 31, 2002 18
Silver Knight foiles every attempt Subaru makes to meet Tsukasa and his friends, believing that someone important like her should have nothing to do with an illegal character like Tsukasa. When she becomes aware of this, and realizes how far the Knights has gone froms its original purpose, Subaru decides to disband the Guild. 
Subaru seeks solace in Tsukasa's embrace. "Recollection" August 7, 2002 19
Subaru is wandering The World while several flashbacks of her past show her first steps in the game and how she founded the Crimson Knights. Later she is attacked by another character, and comes to find Tsukasa badly beaten. They bond even closer and we see a glimpse of the real life Subaru.

Subaru and Tsukasa continue to bond, and he takes her to Aura's domain but when they get there Aura is missing. Meanwhile, following Bear's suggestion the other characters come together to finalize the search for the Key of the Twilight. Subaru meets up with Mimiru and tells her about the place as she thinks she shouldn't have left Tsukasa alone there. Morganna attacks Tsukasa and he is left lifeless on the bed.

Tsukasa is in a coma like state, sitting against the bed as the others begin looking for him. Crim encounters a unbeatable monster. They others decide to seek for Helba's help in order to talk with the AI Harald once again. 
Balmung appears to save Subaru. "Phantom" August 28, 2002 22
Bear, Mimiru, and Subaru are traveling to where the AI Harald is, but they run into another unbeatable monster, yet are saved by Balmung. Once there, they learn about Aura and her connection with Tsukasa from the AI. 
Tsukasa in real life has stolen a bra and a toothbrush. "The Eve" September 4, 2002 23
All the characters are coming together to meet Helba, and go through her gate. Tsukasa meets up with Crim beforehand at the cathedral, and he is scared to go. Crim encouraging him telling him about Subaru's condition in real life. The gate appears and they go through, except Subaru who is determined to wait for Tsukasa.

They get to Net Slum, Helba's domain. Tsukasa finally appears before Subaru and they go through the gate. They are told Morganna's plan by Helba. Tsukasa reveals to Subaru that he is a girl in real life. They figure out that the enemy is after Subaru and they need to protect her. Tsukasa decides that he wants to log out. 
Macha sacrifices herself to save Tsukasa. "Catastrophe" September 18, 2002 25
They leave Net Slum and go to the Cathedral to safeguard Subaru and Tsukasa. Sora and several guardians are sent after them by Morganna. A great battle ensues, and Tsukasa decides to not run anymore. Macha starts to disobey Morganna, and sacrifices herself to save Tsukasa. Tsukasa, Subaru, and Mimiru are transported to an unknown area. 
Aura awakes. "Return" September 25, 2002 26
Tsukasa, Subaru and Mimiru get to where Aura is being held by Morganna. With Subaru as his strength, Tsukasa is able to find the courage to defy Morganna, and is able to awaken Aura, allowing him to log out. Tsukasa, now revealed to be a girl, wakes up from the coma. Leaving the hospital, she is met by a girl in a wheelchair, who is the player behind Subaru. With tears in their eyes the two run towards each other.

Flashbacks about 2 years before .hack//Sign show that Mimiru had a character before her current one, and how she met a Long Arm named Mimika, a character controlled by 3 girls. Mimika turned her own character into a crystalline statue, through a special attack, in order to help her. Considered to be Episode 27.[2]

Tsukasa returns to The World for the first time after the events in .hack//Sign and joins several other characters from both the anime series and the .hack//Games in a celebration at Net Slum hosted by Helba. During the party, Tsukasa notices Sora and invites him to join. He dances with Subaru, and they greet Aura who is looking down from the sky. This episode is set after the .hack//Games. Considered to be Episode 28.[3] 
Tsukasa in Gift. "Gift (OVA)" 2003 29
Helba has created the Twilight Hot Springs for the cast from the .hack//Games series and the .hack//Sign series. Now the characters race to see who finds it first, and to solve some mysterious player-killings. Considered to be Episode 29.[4]
