Contents

[edit] OVA 1: Chibi Party

  • Time Length: 6 minutes 15 seconds

[edit] Plot

An insane party riot where all of the characters from both the FMA movie and the series in chibi form are complimented for a job well done on the movie.

Envy's dragon form is really a costume and he lies that Ed hurt him a lot. After removing the costume, many characters confuse his androgynous form with a girl. Hawkeye starts an event to talk about anything about the show, which causes riot for the microphone. Ed and Al turn into their anime forms briefly and charge into the rumble, but Hawkeye runs them over with a stampede of Black Hayates. Hawkeye begins with the denouncement of Mustang (who happily believed she was declaring her reciprocated love for him and even removes his eyepatch to show he can still see with it), causing him to fall to pieces quite literally. Two suits of armor go next and reveal they are Scar and Lust. After Ed insults them for being extras (their human equivalents appear toward the end of the movie), Scar rips off his X-shaped scar and flings across the room like a shuriken at Ed and Al, but ends up missing and the scar-shuriken is imbedded in the head of Gluttony, who angrily eats Scar and Lust. This makes Ed, Al and several other characters nervous while Gluttony complains it is hot. Ed tries to calmly advise Gluttony to take off his costume (Gluttony is in his gigantic monster form from the movie) but Gluttony reveals that he gained a lot of weight from eating too much meat lately, Ed and co. then realize that this is Gluttony's real form as Gluttony proceeds to eat other characters in the room using his tentacles. Ed spies Alfons in the crowd and discovers Al is talking to him. The OVA ends with a fuming, drunk Winry demanding to know what Noah means to Ed, causing her to beat him up.

[edit] Notes

  • Virtually everyone in the OVA acts completely out of character, as the OVA purports to take place in reality.
  • Many characters confuse Envy with a girl.
  • You will be able to see the Arakawa cow when the riot starts before Ed and Al charge in.
  • Curious that Gluttony devoured Lust because Gluttony is affectionate towards Lust in the anime.
  • The OVA took place after the movie. The following are spoilers.
    • The conversation of the army of suits of armor in the opening.
    • The part when Hawkeye was asking Roy a question.
    • Envy's dragon form, which turned out to be a costume.
    • The monster Gluttony, who mutated simply from eating too much.
    • The appearance of Alfons Heidereich, Dietlinde Eckhart, and other characters exclusive to the movie.
    • Alphonse, Dietlinde, Wrath and Izumi (the latter two still angry at each other) are sitting at a table with a placard translated to "for dead people," referring to the fact that their characters had all died - or were referred to as dead - during the movie.
    • The magazine that Winry was holding shows frames from the movie.

[edit] OVA 2: Kids

  • Time Length: 3 minutes 20 seconds

[edit] Plot

In the year 2005, Edward's three grandchildren - who resemble Ed, Al, and Winry, search for his apartment to deliver a present for his 100th birthday.

[edit] Notes

  • A billboard involving the movie was seen were in reality, the movie was premiered in Japan during the year the OVA took place.
  • There are newspaper clippings in his apartment that suggest that he has been actively working for world peace since he arrived in our reality. Notably, there is a picture of him shaking hands with a man who resembles Kofi Annan, as well as an article on the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
  • The descendents of Roy and Breda were seen playing the FMA card game. Breda's descendant won, which is reminiscent of Breda's similar skill at shogi.
  • The descendents of Vato Falman and Jean Havoc are casual observers of the card game between Roy's and Breda's descendants
  • A police officer that bears a striking likeness to Hughes draws the children a map to Edward's home when they get lost.
  • This OVA features a soundtrack from the original series
  • From the angles where Ed is shown, he greatly resembles his father Hohenheim.

[edit] OVA 3: Liveaction

  • Time Length: 2 minutes 53 seconds (counting credits)

[edit] Plot

Alphonse Elric - in his armor form - embarks on a quest in a real-life Japan to find his brother Edward. His search eventually takes him to Studio Bones, where the series was produced, but due to his size he cannot fit through the door.

[edit] Notes

  • This is the first OVA to have credits.
  • The theme song is titled "Hagane no Kokoro"

[edit] OVA 4: Alchemists vs. Homunculi

  • Time Length: 10 minutes 8 seconds

[edit] Plot

The OVA focuses on a non-canon interactive episode that features the viewer as a new State Alchemist. The Fuhrer welcomes the viewer to the military and introduces himself. Juliet Douglas (Sloth) enters and hands the Fuhrer a card which he reads and quickly departs, puting the viewer under the command of Roy Mustang. It laters shows a scene when the Fuhrer, Pride, is addressing four of the Homunculi: Sloth, Wrath, Lust and Gluttony. He commands them to destroy Greed, the Elrics and Mustang's group. Mustang has a meeting with his subordinates and informs them they are dealing with the Homunculi and will venture into the unknown to rescue Ed and Al from Greed. Mustang then gives the viewer a ring with a transmutation circle on it.

Ed, Al and Winry, meanwhile, are being held captive in a church by Greed. Ed is suspended from the ceiling by a rope. Greed makes a move on Winry and tells Al he wants a body like his. Ed breaks free using alchemy and discovers that Winry is actually Envy. Greed angrily attacks Envy, only to be sent flying away. Ed and Al chase Envy into another room where they are ambushed by Lust, Gluttony and Wrath.

Mustang and his troops arrive at the church and are blasted away by a tidal wave sent by Sloth. Mustang heads into the church while Hawkeye takes on Sloth. Ed and Al flee into a large opera room where Mustang shows up and fries the Homunculi. Sloth, Hawkeye and the Mustang's troops, Major Armstrong, Kimbly, Archer and all of the State Alchemists arrive. An intense battle pursues with the military losing to the Homunculi. Mustang sees the viewer hiding and tells the viewer to use his alchemic powers. He is strangled by Sloth and the viewer activates the ring that he has which creates millions of giant transmuation circles. Everyone looks on in horror as the entire building explodes. Later, the military troops are all alive but the Homunculi fled. Ed and Al approach the viewer and congratulate them for their work and depart.

[edit] Notes

  • Greed is defeated by Envy in the form of a captured Winry.
  • The Homunculi were given the ability to revive themselves.
  • This is the only Fullmetal Alchemist OVA where the viewer interacts with the characters and has a role in the plot.
  • The OVA is very confusing as it features characters or events that take place before or after each other in the anime and is considered non-canon. For example, Greed and Kimbley are still alive in the OVA and Archer has his automail parts. In addition, Kimbley and Archer fought the Homunculi on the side of the State Military. Also Pride has been revealed. Plus, in the anime the State Military never had a confrontation with the Homunculi, except for Ed, Mustang and Hughes.

[edit] Trivia

  • This OVA was first viewable by the public in Universal Studios Osaka, Japan in spring of 2005, before the airing of the Fullmetal Alchemist film. A guided tour was set up in the park as an exhibit, featuring various walk-through rooms decorated with model props from the series. Each room contained screens that would show clips and explore various aspects of the television show. All actors/staff were dressed in the uniforms of the Amestris Military. At the end of the tour, the audience was lead to a room with a single larger screen where this OVA was shown, followed by a teaser trailer for Conqueror of Shamballa.

[edit] OVA 5: Reflections

  • Time Length: 60 minutes (counting credits) A recap of the series narrated by Greed and Envy.

[edit] Plot

Not exactly an OVA but the whole anime series summarized by Greed and Envy, at the same time they reveal facts about themselves that were only hinted through out the series, with new dialogues.

[edit] Notes

  • Greed's past with Dante is revealed.
  • Envy's ambitions are further explained.
