This is a list of the most notable films produced in West Germany from 1945 until November 1989 in year order. Germany has a long history of different constitutional frameworks and the lists are divided up by political regime shown on separate pages. West Germany came into existence in 1949. Note that because of the impact of the Second World War, and restrictions imposed on the country by the allied powers, film production between 1945-1948 was at a halt anyway and didn't pick up really until after 1950.
