Talk:List of islands of Japan
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is a seriously inadequate list, if it is meant to be comprehensive. There are hundreds of smaller islands in Japan.User:Andycjp 20th March 2005
[edit] Sorted lists
How about articles:
- List of Japanese islands by area
- List of Japanese islands by population
- List of Japanese islands by per capita GDP
- and so on
Of course, we wouldn't want to include every minor island that no one cares about. Maybe the island lists can be restricted to inhabited islands, large enough islands, or both. —Tokek 22:27, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
- Go for it! I don't see a need to provide a cutoff; as long as anyone's interested in adding information, why not let them. But if the article by area has headings in it (along the lines of Over 1000 km²; 100 – 1000 km²; 30 – 100 km²; Under 30 km²) then it's very useful, and provides a framework for growth. The same can be done for population. As for per capita GDP, are sources available? Given the info, it sounds very useful. Fg2 02:29, July 28, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Takeshima as disputed Japanese territory
It is under Korean government's jurisdiction. Japanese claim doesn't count, therefore, even "-disputed" tag won't justify its presence in the list. The list only shows islands under Japanese government's control. If you don't agree with my words, go to talk:Dokdo, and look at one of the archives. If you have problem with my edit, I ask that you spill over this issue to the talk:Dokdo article. (Wikimachine 20:55, 9 December 2006 (UTC))
- Regardless of which side one thinks is "right", the fact that Takeshima/Dokdo is claimed by Japan and this claim is disputed is impossible to argue. Removing disputed territories from lists is counter-productive. CES 03:24, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
