Lucas Entertainment is a gay pornographic movie studio founded in 1998 by pornographic actor Michael Lucas with money he earned from working in prostitution.[1] Lucas founded the studio in New York City to take advantage of the lack of competition there; said Lucas: "It is great for me that there is no competition in NYC. It gives me the opportunity to completely dominate New York." [2]
Lucas directs, produces and stars in his own films under the Lucas Entertainment banner. In an industry whose output is generally mediocre, this studio has garnered a multitude of GayVN Awards and Adult Erotic Gay Video Awards ("Grabbys") nominations and wins, and directed the careers of a number of hustlers and escorts into porn. Lucas Entertainment has four different production lines: the Auditions collection, the Fire Island Cruising collection, the International collection, and the Manhattan collection.
In the summer of 2004, Lucas Entertainment launched its own self-distribution line, Lucas Distribution. In 2005, Lucas started his own personal blog, LucasBlog.com, and produced Michael Lucas' Dangerous Liaisons, the studio's biggest-budget production to date. [3]
In the summer of 2006, production began on Michael Lucas' La Dolce Vita, a gay adult remake of the Fellini classic La Dolce Vita [4] with a non-sexual guest role by heterosexual porn star Savanna Samson. The film received attention due in part to articles in the New York Post, the New York Daily News, and Gawker.com.
