Lumberton High School is a high school in Lumberton, Texas. It is operated by the Lumberton Independent School District.

The Lumberton Independent School District was created in 1967 based on the old Chance-Loeb school district that had previously been the school for children in the area. The original High school is now currently home of the Lumberton Middle School located on US Highway 96. The new High School, which opened in the fall of 1979, is located on the expanding Highway 69 on the west side of Lumberton. Located in the front of the school are five pine trees which are memoriams of five students who died in a car crash in May of 1998. The students were Trey Landry, Michael Richey, Matt Richard, Daniel Salim, and Clint Bertrand.

The school's official color is Columbia blue with secondary colors of red and silver. While the majority of organizations use red as the official color, in recent years, as in past, a trend has begun to revert back to the original school color, Columbia blue. The mascot is the Raider, a representation of Yosemite Sam. The school is currently ranked near the bottom of 4A Classifications in terms of enrollment, usually bordering around the 1000 mark. (2006 enrollment if 1,011.) The school is home to Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classifications. The school current principal is John Valastro. The School's current superintendent is Gus Hollomon.

For the 2004-2005 School year, Lumberton HS was rated "Academically Acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency, In the previous 4 years, however, the school had earned Exception Rankings.

The Lumberton High School Raiders currently compete in the 4A Classification in District 22 with Beaumont Central, Beaumont Ozen, Dayton, Nederland, Little Cyprus-Mauriceville, Port Neches-Groves, and Vidor. Since 1967, no Lumberton High School Football team has advanced past the regular season into the playoffs. The Raiders play at Raider Stadium located behind the high school and adjacent to the baseball field. Raider Stadium also boasts one of the larger stadiums in the district with an estimated capacity at around 10,000 and the ability to play host football, soccer, and track events. The Stadium is a grass field and completed renovations in 1999. In 2005, The Varisty football team went 0-10 after coming off a 3-6 season the previous year. Next year the Lumberton Raiders have a good chance of making history. With their new head coach Alvin Credeur they plan on making it not only to the playoffs but deep into them as well..

The Lumberton Raiders and Lady Raider basketball teams also play in the coveted District 22-4A with Beaumont Central, Beaumont Ozen, Dayton, Nederland, Little Cyprus-Mauriceville, Port Neches-Groves, and Vidor. Both teams were able to name students to the All-District teams. The boys and girls team play their home games at Raider Gym located within Lumberton, HS.

[edit] Baseball and Softball

The Raiders and Lady Raiders baseball and softball teams compete at their respective fields with the Lumberton HS complex. The boys and girls teams compete with District 20-4A with teams from Beaumont Central, Beaumont Ozen, Nederland, Little Cyprus-Mauriceville, Port Neches-Groves, and Vidor. The boys baseball teams tend to have on and off years in which they produce great teams, and some years not so good teams. The boys baseball team has made it to the playoffs many times in the recent past and even won regional titles in the 1970s. A 2003 graduate of Lumberton HS, Clay buchholz, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2004 and is currently playing for the Greenville Drive.

[edit] Track and Field and Cross Country

The track and field members of Lumberton HS compete in District 22-4A playing the same teams as the football and basketball teams do. The Cross Country team routinely produces outstanding runners and competes well within the district. The same can be said for the Track and Field teams.

The boys and girls soccer teams of Lumberton HS are perhaps the best sports programs, and most productive, of all. The teams routinely advance to the playoffs and compete for Regional titles year after year. In 2004, the girls soccer team broke their record of three continuous undefeated seasons and also broke a two year old record of shutting out district opponents. The teams compete in District 20-4A with 3A and 4A schools consisting of Beaumont Central, Beaumont Ozen, Nederland, Little Cyprus-Mauriceville, Port Neches-Groves, Silsbee, Hardin Jefferson, West-Orange Stark and Vidor. The boys and girls soccer teams compete at Raider Stadium located behind Lumberton HS.

[edit] Cheerleaders

The Lumberton High School cheerealders are an outstanding group of young ladies. Many would consider these young ladies to be the most prestigious group of High School cheerleaders in the state of Texas. Their Reputation for high level skills has been shown since the early 1980's. Their late director Michelle Mackey led the team to the ranking of fourth in the nation during their 2005-2006 season, and seventh in the nation in their 2004-2005 season. Their most recent directors, Vickie Mouton and Jamie Stowers led their competing team to become National Champions in the 2006-2007 season. The Cheerleaders are also involved in many extra curricular activites and help many community organizations throughout the year.

The Lumberton HS Student council is one of the premier groups on campus responsible for the organization and completion of various school tasks within the campus. The Student Council is a member of the Texas Association of Student Councils and often serves on the district board with the local student Council District. The council is responsible for community service activities, environmental education programs, teacher appreciation, Drugs, Alcohol, Substance abuse, and Health programs. The current sponsor of the group is Lydia Wolford. The individual grades are responsible for class meetings and dance coordination, including prom.

Lumberton High School's most prestigious students are inducted in the National Honor Society of Lumberton High School. Candidates must have a 3.45 Grade Point Average and be recommend by teachers across the campus for outstanding commitment to honor, service, reliability, and other honorable attributes. The National Honor Society is responsible for holding 1 of 2 blood drives supported by the High School and LifeShare Blood Center.

• Feb 2005 - Kathy Denise White was indicted for alleged sexual relations with a 17-year old student..^[1]
• Jan 2007 - "Hit list, all will die, January 30, 2007," was written on a note found by a custodian Jan. 23 in a stall in a girls' bathroom at the school. It was later revealed to be a hoax. .^[2]
