Maia (pron. IPA: ['maiɐ]) is both a parish and a city in the Porto Metropolitan Area. It has a population of 9,816 in the Maia parish, whereas the urban area of the city of Maia has a total population of 38,858, and the Maia municipality comprises 120,744 inhabitants in 17 parishes for a land area of 83.70 km². Another important village in Maia municipality is Águas Santas with 25,249 people in conurbation with the municipality of Porto.

Maia municipality is highly developed by European standards with the biggest industrial park in the Porto Metropolitan Area. In the parish of Moreira in Pedras Rubras is located the Porto international airport, Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (also known as Pedras Rubras). It is also home of ISMAI - Instituto Suoerior da Maia, an institution of higher education.
