Major County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 7,545. Its county seat is Fairview6.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,481 km² (958 mi²). 2,478 km² (957 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.12%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 7,545 people, 3,046 households, and 2,208 families residing in the county. The population density was 3/km² (8/mi²). There were 3,540 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (4/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 94.96% White, 0.19% Black or African American, 0.90% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 2.40% from other races, and 1.44% from two or more races. 4.02% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 3,046 households out of which 31.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.70% were married couples living together, 6.00% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% were non-families. 25.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 2.92.
In the county, the population was spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 6.70% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 24.90% from 45 to 64, and 19.40% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 95.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $30,949, and the median income for a family was $36,888. Males had a median income of $28,078 versus $17,658 for females. The per capita income for the county was $17,272. About 9.30% of families and 12.00% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.10% of those under age 18 and 9.30% of those age 65 or over.
