[edit] Still Falls the Rain
Musically it works funk and disco influences into a cool art rock framework. Andy Mackay's uptempo saxophone riffs on the chorus give the song something of an early James Brown feel. The lyrics stand as a good example of Bryan Ferry's strong but not overwhelming literary allusions. Ferry addresses a "dear Hyde" from the first verse onwards, developing a parallel with Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. By the last refrain Ferry sings, "Call me Mister, call me Hyde," indicating that his change in personality is complete. Ferry enhances the effect by using a lower vocal register for the choruses.
Adding another layer of allusion, the song shares its title with a World War II-era poem by Edith Sitwell. (See, Still Falls the Rain (poem).)
