Manulife Financial, also known as The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company, (NYSE: MFC, TSX: MFC, SEHK: 945, PSE: MFC) is a Canadian insurance company.
Manulife Financial was founded in 1887 by Sir John A. Macdonald and is headquartered in the city of Toronto. In 1897, Manulife Financial expanded its operations into Asia, including China and Hong Kong. Its UK subsidiary, known as ManuLife UK and based in Stevenage was acquired by Canada Life Financial in 1995.
The company now has offices in Canada, the United States (through John Hancock Insurance) and Asia throughout 19 countries and territories worldwide with 46,000 employees and agents. [1]
Manulife Financial is the largest insurance company in Canada, the second largest in North America and the world's fifth largest, based on market capitalization.
