Marduk (Macross)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Marduk are a humanoid alien race that featured in Macross II. They were named after the god of war Marduk.
[edit] History
The Marduk appeared at the edges of the Earth's solar system where they appeared to be Zentradi that were attacking the UN Spacy. When the UN Spacy attempted to utilize the Minmay Defense the enemy appeared not to be affected and the Earth government was attempting to mount a defense against the seemingly invincible and numberless enemy.
The aliens plan was the simple extermination of the human race and the destruction of their homeworld and they attempted to accomplish this through the use of their slave Zentran and Meltran warriors who were conditioned to fight.
While this was occurring, the Emulator Ishtar would be captured by a human reporter known as Hibiki who would show his peoples peaceful society which would inspire the Emulator in attempting to reform her society. She believed that the way this could be done was through the Alus, the Macross alien vessel that crashed on Earth many years ago. To the Marduk, it was the ship of legends and the reason the Marduk Emperor was intent on destroying the human species.
Earths defenses would be shattered as the defenders struggled to defeat the enemy as every fleet they damaged, hundreds more would take their place. By the time the siege of Earth came, it was remarked that the enemy had only used a fraction of their power. The Marduk attempted to destroy all life on the planet when the Emulator Ishtar, onboard the Alus, made a plea to her people.
This plea would stall the Marduk fleet which was in defiance against Lord Emperor Ingues. In punishment, he would destroy entire ships and demand them to continue. This action, along with Ishtars words about Ingues leading their kind to destruction, resulting in the Marduk rebelling against their leader. The entire Marduk fleet would fire on Ingues flagship which was destroyed as a result and ended the war.
The Marduk left Earth in order to find a new way to live.
[edit] Society
The Marduk were based on large warships of Zentradi design that were colored blue in appearance. Each ship contained hundreds of Marduk and Zentran or Meltran warriors who would be let loose on the battlefield. Once unleashed, they would be controlled by the Marduks Emulators (Macross). These 'priestesses' would sing the Songs of War which encouraged their warriors to fight to the death to defeat their enemies and was the reason why the Minmay Defense failed.
Marduk ships were led by the Marduk commanders who were human sized while the Zentran and Meltran slave warriors were kept in stasis until called upon. Control was maintained through mind control technology which prevented the slave race from rebelling. Like their slave warriors, the Marduk were a warrior people who knew no other life except conquest and eventually death. Their songs that motivated their people were also tools of war and there was no concept of peace. Contamination by alien cultures was not tolerated with the infected ship being destroyed as 'punishment'.
The Marduk were led by Lord Emperor Ingues who was stationed on a massive near moon sized mobile battlestation which he was physically connected to. He was seen as a god by his people and commanded them on their quest to conquer the galaxy by destroying all enemies. Death and destruction, to him, were the ways of the Marduk. During certain battle conditions, he would demand his emulators to sing the Song of Death which resulted in their warriors in engaging in suicidal ramming techniques to defeat the enemy which could be very devastating to enemy ships. He brooked no deviance from his authority from his followers and the sign of any such rebellion would result in the offending ship being destroyed. Fleets were known to be exterminated for demonstrating such behaviour.
The fate of the Marduk after Ingues' death is unknown.
