Maryanne Trump Barry

Maryanne Trump Barry (born 1937) or The Honorable Maryanne Barry, is a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She is the daughter of Mary MacLeod Trump, who hails from the small town of Stornoway, Outer Hebrides (Na h-Eileanan Siar) in Scotland. She is the older sister of real estate mogul Donald Trump.

Barry was born in New York City, New York. She received her B.A. in Political Science/Government from Mount Holyoke College in 1958, an M.A. from Columbia University in 1962, and her J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law in 1974. Prior to her service as a judge, she had held other public service positions, having been a United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey.

Barry was appointed to the Court of Appeals by President Bill Clinton on June 17, 1999, confirmed by the Senate on September 13, 1999, and received her commission on September 22, 1999. She had previously spent seventeen years as a judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, having been appointed to that court by Ronald Reagan on September 14, 1983. In January of 2006, Barry testified in support of the appointment of fellow Third Circuit Judge Samuel Alito to the United States Supreme Court.
