Matt Thompson (footballer)

Matthew Thompson (born August 18, 1982 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player. He currently plays as a right midfielder for the Australian A-League club Newcastle United Jets, although has often been used as a right defender. In his two A-League seasons with the Jets, he has scored several of the league's best all-time goals, and has been chased by many other big clubs, although has signed with the Jets for two more seasons. Matt is expected to get a call-up to the Australian National team if performances such as recent ones continue.
