Michael Symes (born October 31, 1983 in Great Yarmouth) is an English professional football player currently with Shrewsbury Town. He plays as a striker.
Symes started his career as a trainee at Everton where he reached the final of the FA Youth Cup, playing up-front with Wayne Rooney. A succession of injuries prevented him from breaking into the Everton first team and he was released by David Moyes.
After being signed by Bradford City in 2004, he spent time on loan at Stockport County and Shrewsbury Town, where he is currently playing. He made his Town début as a late substitute in the 2006-07 opener against Mansfield Town. He scored in his second appearance, also coming as substitute, and started in the League Cup match against Birmingham City.
Symes subsequently signed for the Shropshire club on a permanent deal ahead of the August 31, 2006 transfer deadline. The deal was originally until the end of December 2006, but after the departure of Glynn Hurst, it was extended until the season's end.[1] In January 2007 his contract was extended further, lasting until summer of 2009.[2]
