Mike Starr (musician)

Michael Christopher Starr (born April 4, 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii), better known as Mike Starr, is an American musician, and was Alice in Chains' original bassist from the group's formation in 1987 to 1993. He played bass for albums Facelift, Sap, and Dirt and left the group in the middle of the Dirt tour.
According to press releases, Mike Starr's departure from Alice in Chains was amicable, and was due to the rigors of constant touring and the desire to spend more time with his family. There were many rumors of the "real" reason he left, including drug use, selling bootlegs, or that the rest of the band just got sick of him[citation needed]. None of these rumors have been substantiated.
He was most often seen playing several variations of a Spector NS-2 bass guitar.
He later played bass for the band Sun Red Sun, which featured the late Ray Gillen and Bobby Rondinelli, both former members of Black Sabbath. He maintains a myspace page @ myspace.com/mikestarr66.
