Milan Michálek (IPA pronunciation: [mɪ'kælɛk]) (born December 7, 1984 in Jindrichuv Hradec, Czech Republic) is a NHL ice hockey player, currently playing left wing for the San Jose Sharks. He was drafted sixth overall by the Sharks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. His brother, Zbynek, also plays in the NHL for the Phoenix Coyotes. Drafted by San Jose because he was considered the most NHL-ready player in the draft, Michálek scored a goal in his first game before suffering a knee injury on October 11 in his second game when he tore his right ACL.[1] After knee surgery, Michálek played in the American Hockey League before injuring his knee again on January 22. During the 2004-05 NHL lockout, Michálek did not play anywhere, spending the time rehabbing his knee.
Michálek is a speedy winger who is known for his two-way game. Hockeysfuture describes his potential as that of a first-line winger.

[edit] Contract
Michálek is in the second year of a three-year-contract worth about US$2 million. Michalek can make more than that since his contract includes many bonuses, one of which he received in 2006 for ranking among the Sharks's top six forwards in average ice time. According to the San Jose Mercury News, at 15 minutes, 48 seconds per game, Michálek ranked fourth behind Joe Thornton (21:16), Patrick Marleau (20:00) and Jonathan Cheechoo (19:48) entering Monday's finale. Because Michálek was signed under the previous collective bargaining agreement, his $1 million bonus did not count against the club's salary cap.
