[edit] Hostile code in Miniclip games?
Two security firms, listed in the article, claim that Miniclip games contain hostile code in miniclipgameloader.dll. No verification to the contrary was provided when an anonymous user removed the claim of hostile code, so I reverted that. Any other hard info available? --John Nagle 20:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
It's nice to have a dedicated publisher on Wikipedia like you. Just to help you out on this one... - CastleCops now lists it as hostile code. See CastleCops report. Also, the claim that the file has been removed from Miniclip is false. It is still available from Miniclip at [1]. --John Nagle 21:26, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
Castlecops does not call it "hostile", they say it is "not required". Also, the file does not exist where you claim it does. The link you post shows that it is not found/does not exist. Any software you install on your computer could do bad things. Nagle, hi, I have researched your article "Hostile Code" and list your mistakes here. 1. Misquoted PrevX by saying that they said the code is "hostile". They never said the code is "hostile". The burden is upon you to post accurate information on Wikipedia not for others to disprove your wrong information as you ask them to do in the discussion notes. 8. Prevx does not say "some miniclip games install a file" as you claim. 9. You do not show a link to where this code is found or supposedly installed. If you claim something exists or if something has a hostile intent you must show it to be so. - CastleCops and PrevX still have warning notices on their sites. The article has been updated to link to the specific warning pages in each case. I agree that the Greatis message wasn't clear, so I took that out. Incidentally, it's best to register for a Wikipedia account if you're going to engage in difficult issues. It's possible that Miniclip is no longer using this particular form of hostile code, so I changed the article to the past tense. --John Nagle 17:51, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Nagle, please read the above 12 points which still apply to your bogus article on Hostile code and learn about malware from the dictionary. - The phrase "hostile code" is a generic term which covers adware, spyware, viruses, trojans, etc. SecurityFocus uses the broad definition "By "hostile code", we mean any process running on a system that is not authorized by the system administrator, such as Trojans, viruses, or spyware." As for the point that the specific attacks mentioned may not currently be on Miniclip, that's not a reason to remove them from Wikipedia. Wikipedia covers past events, too.
- If you represent Miniclip, how about providing a signed declaration under oath from an officer of the company that no program on Miniclip contains adware, spyware, viruses, trojans, backdoors, or any other form of hostile code? 15. Security firms update their reports with the most updated and accurate information because their automated systems routinely flag up code innacurately. That is why their old reports are proven wrong when they issue new information. No sources say the code was installed by games. Nagle appears to have made this up.
[edit] Info about RS on miniclip
Here is the rundown on the rumor that RuneScape is unsafe to run from Miniclip.com. First of all, just because they are an official affiliate does not mean that they are safe to play RuneScape on.
- Reason one: it is known that some miniclip games install a trojan. It is possible that the trojan could log your keypresses and send it into a third party, and that would lead to your password being revealed when you type it in.
- Reason two: because Miniclip is using an Iframe to display RuneScape, it is possible that they could have a flash, javascript, or other object running outside the frame capturing your keypresses, which would lead to your username and password being compromised.
I will look through all running objects and their code (this excludes the RS client, of course), and will see if anything contains code that could steal passwords and other things, and when I am done with the research I will either post it on this talk page or on my user page (I will not put it on the article at first because that would violate the "No original research" wikipedia rule. This is not true. Runescape who licenses their game for use on Miniclip would report it if it were true.

Good cleanup job. Finally someone got rid of that corny "top 10 games" list. Of course though, just like on any other page: when you remove something that many users like to have, it causes commotion. There are two types of webby awards, Academy voting and Public voting. They are called the Webby Award and the Webby Peoples Voice Award. They are both webby awards but are voted on differently. When the New York times or anyone else talks about the webby awards they refer to both types of Webby awards academy voting and public voting. Miniclip was given a physical Webby Award trophy by the Webby Awards at the Webby Awards ceromony. You need to go the to webby website not wiki site to find out.
