Miranda Gaddis and Ashley Pond
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ashley Marie Pond (March 1, 1989 – January 9, 2002) and Miranda Diane Gaddis (November 18, 1988 – March 8, 2002) were two Oregon City, Oregon middle school girls who were kidnapped and murdered in 2002.
Ashley was on her way to school from her apartment when she disappeared on January 9. Her disappearance sent family, friends, classmates and neighbors out looking for her — including her friend Miranda Gaddis. On March 8, Miranda went missing as well.
On August 24 and 25, FBI agents found Ashley's body in a barrel underneath a concrete slab. The next day, they found Miranda's body in a box in a tool shed. Both bodies were found at the home of Ward Weaver III, a neighbor who knew both girls, and had conducted an interview with KATU television reporter Anna Song days before while standing on top of the concrete slab. As a result of a plea bargain, Weaver avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty to both murders, and was sentenced to life in prison.
