[edit] Race to the Right
Race to the Right is a popular talk show in the St Cloud, MN area. It features discussion about news, politics, current events, movies, sports and just about whatever pops up at the time. It can be heard on NewsTalk 1450 KNSI or through podcasts and webstreams via the show's home website/discussion group and blogs.
The show started in September 2004 with 10 bi-weekly shows in the Sunday lineup from 2PM - 4PM on KYCR AM 1570 (Patriot II--Eagan, MN). It was co-hosted by Tony Garcia and Marty Andrade.
In April 2005 the show was given 2 hours on the Talk Station, KSTP-AM 1500 (Minneapolis-St Paul, MN) on a show called the Next Big Thing.
On July 31, 2005 Race to the Right began on Sundays from 1PM - 3PM on NewsTalk 1450 KNSI (St Cloud, MN). During this time Tony was invited to fill in for the station's morning show Hot Talk with the Ox hosted by Dan "the Ox" Ochsner.
Marty quit the show on September 29, 2006 because of personal reasons. Tony's first regular solo show began on October 1, 2006. The first guest for the soloist was Kevin Reichard, one the best baseball stadium reviewers.
The show started with the main premise that there are many issues which cause disagreements within the right-wing. Tony and Marty often had differing views on those issues and cause a very enlightening dialogue on those topics. They also view themselves as the place "where rational thought and common sense are disguised as entertainment." Tony seeks philosophical and intellectual consistency while Marty seeks advancement of the needs of the Republican Party at the expense of and admitted disregard of consistency.
A contest for the new name for the show is forthcoming.
[edit] Background
Tony is an Hispanic from the Los Angeles area. He is an Air Force veteran and a University of Minnesota graduate. Tony graduated with a Political Science major. His "real" job is as an accountant at a public school, but this is only temporary. He is driving for a full time radio show.
Tony is a state's rights Philosophical theist. He went through high school as an Army brat in Germany and during the experience had a close up view of the importance of international relations. Post-graduation he was a socialist. While homeless in Southern California he realized that dependence on anyone else was not helping him. This began the road away from his socialist views. Upon joining the Air Force he got a crash course of the impact of taxes on his gross income. That essentially completed the philosophical change to fiscal conservative.
