Morristown-Beard School

Morristown-Beard School is an independent coeducational day school, serving students in sixth through twelfth grade, located in Morristown, in Morris County, New Jersey. Morristown-Beard was established by Henry Lee Higginson in 1891 as Morristown Prep School for Boys, originally a prep school for Harvard, which in 1971 merged with Miss Beard's School for Girls to become the Morristown-Beard School.

Currently, Alex Curtis is the Head of School.

• Morristown School was founded in 1891 by Major Henry Lee Higginson, who also established the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
• John Reed was a graduate of Morristown Prep School for Boys.
• Between 1997 and 2004, Beard hall and Grant hall were rebuilt under the massive $20 million capital campaign, this was done under headmaster Laird Davis.

[edit] Clubs and extracurricular activities

• Morristown-Beard students partake in a variety of clubs and organizations on campus. The Stock Club is a fixture of the MBS community, as many students in the Upper School have their first experience with the Stock market. The group makes annual trips to the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange and, in previous years, dined at the NYSE Executive Club Luncheon. Previous speakers to the Stock Club have included CNBC's Jim Cramer, host of Mad Money.
• The Crimson Sun is the Morristown-Beard student newspaper. This publication has received numerous awards in recent years, including recognition by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. In 2005, the Crimson Sun received the bronze award from the CSPA, and was awarded a silver award in 2006^{[citation needed]}.

Morristown-Beard School competes in the Colonial Hills Conference which is comprised of eighteen public and parochial high schools covering Essex County, Morris County and Somerset County in west central New Jersey, under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA).

• The Boys Baseball team were the 2005 NJSIAA Non-Public B State Champions.
• The Boys Ice Hockey team won the 2006 Mennen Cup and the 2007 Prep Title.
• The Girl's Crimson Hockey Team won the 2007 Women's Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid-Atlantic Championship.^[1]
