- The correct title of this article is mun2. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.
Mun2 is a national Cable TV station aimed at young Latinos in the United States and is owned by NBC Universal. The name mun2 is pronounced "moon dos" which is written "mundos" in Spanish meaning "worlds" in English. It is the sister network of Telemundo. The programming of mun2 is mainly music videos and shows designed for young Latino viewers.
In its early form, the channel was called GEMS Television, and was known as the Latino version of Lifetime. Telemundo bought it and began to program it with a bilingual slant featuring programs from its former owners Sony Pictures Entertainment including Spanish language versions of Charlie's Angels and The Dating Game. From midnight to 2 pm, the channel would air programs from Home Shopping Network's Spanish language network HSE (Home Shopping Español), which launched the careers of Pita Ojeda, Luisa Fernanda and Charytin.
The channel was rebranded mun2 and its programming changed to reflect both the Latino and English-language markets. Original programming as well as advertising would feature Spanish and English spoken interchangeably, reflecting the channel's young, bilingual audience. Among the shows that air on the network include many music video-based programs, a dual rebroadcast of the USA Network's WWE RAW program (which some portions are censored as they are on USA) showing both the English USA feed as well as the SAP feed, and some youth-oriented programming. Futurama episodes dubbed in Spanish once appeared on the network.
mun2 recently relocated its hub from the Telemundo studios in Hialeah, Florida to a state of the art studio inside the Universal City complex.
In 2007 mun2 along with Telemundo have plans to relocate their technical operations staff to Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. Englewood Cliffs currently serves as CNBC's Global Headquarters.
Some shows mun2 broadcasts are: 18 & Over, The mun2 Shift, Vivo, mun2 Shuffle, One Nation under Hip- Hop, The Chicas Project, Se Habla Rock, and Day in Day Out.
