MIT: Murder Investigation Team is a British police drama series produced by the ITV network as a spin-off from the long running series, The Bill. It debuted on 3 May 2003, and received a second series. It is based around the investigations of a London Murder Investigation Team.
The MIT abbreviation was removed from the international broadcasts to avoid confusion with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The first series was filmed with the working title Think Murder.
[edit] Connections with The Bill
The series is a spin-off from the long running series The Bill and the first episode featured the team investigating the drive-by shooting of one of The Bill's popular characters, Sgt. Matt Boyden.
[edit] Production
There were 10 one-hour episodes in the first series. Produced by Tom Cotter, the series starred Samantha Spiro, Lindsey Coulson, Richard Hope and Steven Pacey, with guest appearances from Gary Kemp (of Spandau Ballet) and Paul Bown (who previously appeared from 1987 to 1993 with Emma Wray and Liza Tarbuck in the ITV sitcom called Watching).
A second series consisting of four 90-minute episodes was commissioned and filmed, and although the series was shown in Australia in February 2005, its UK broadcast was delayed until July 2005, ITV has recently axed the show and confirmed that there will not be a third series.
