My Favorite Martian (film)

My Favorite Martian is a 1999 comedy feature starring Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Daniels, Elizabeth Hurley, Daryl Hannah, Wallace Shawn and Ray Walston. It was directed by Donald Petrie and written by John L. Greene, Sherri Stoner and Deanna Oliver.
Plot Outline (Warning, ending details follow) News producer Tim O'Hara gets himself fired for unwillingly compromising his bosses' daughter Brace Channing during a live transmission. A little later, he witnesses the crashing of a small martian spacecraft, realizing his one-time chance of delivering a story that will rock the earth. Since Tim took the original, but scaled down spaceship with him, the martian follows him to retrieve it. Unfortunately, the electron accelerator is broken and the martian seeks Tim's help. Tim and "uncle Martin" now stay together, but Tim tapes the Alien with hidden cameras for his story of a lifetime. Ruthless Brace acquires the cassettes after Tim has become a friend with Martin and decided otherwise. O'hara switches the tapes with earlier footage shot of an older man trying to ask Brace on a date. In order to also prevent it from airing, Uncle Martin takes the form of Brace and pulls the trick of. Finally, they save the spaceship from exploding and get back to mars.

- Part of the film was filmed in Santa Barbara, California.
- This film currently airs on Disney Channel and also as part of the Starz Encore cable channels.
- At the first crash site, Dr. Coli mentions the "Martian Incident of 1963". Armitan replies, "Not only is that incident classified, but it never happened!" This refers to the original My Favorite Martian TV show, which debuted in 1963, and Ray Walston playing Uncle Martin.
- After giving back Uncle Martin's anttenae, Armitan/Neenert (Ray Walston) makes several comments relating to his role as the original Uncle Martin. He first says, "Everything's in black and white," in reference to black and white television. "The commercials are going 'Pop, pop' and 'Fizz, fizz!" is a reference to the classic Alka-Seltzer commercial. His third line, "That gum lost its flavor in '66," honors the year the original show ended; 1966.
- In one scene, Daryl Hannah wears an Incredible Hulk t-shirt while talking on the phone to 'Daniels, Jeff' . "The Incredible Hulk" starred the late Bill Bixby, who played Tim O'Hara in the original "My Favorite Martian" TV series.
