[edit] Episode overview
While working in the free clinic, Elliot treats a pregnant teenaged girl named Meredith Fox. Elliot is extremely awkward and uncomfortable dealing with her. By the time Elliot gets Meredith's test results which show that she needs to deliver immediately, she has left the hospital. Elliot goes to the hospital on her day off to look for her.
Dr. Cox makes J.D. tape the birth of his friends' baby. J.D. messes up and there is no tape, but Dr. Cox switches the tape with a recording of the birth of another baby to avoid ridicule from Jordan. She is not fooled, and they argue loudly until J.D. interjects, at which point they both yell at him.
Turk is the only person in the hospital to embrace the Christmas spirit. However, after a night on call he finds himself losing faith in God. While sitting on the roof, he notices the star on top of the tree in Miller Park and goes there, where he finds Meredith in labor under the tree. This rekindles his Faith.
[edit] Plot development
In this episode the following are references to ongoing plot lines in the TV series:
- This is the first appearance of Nurse Tisdale. Throughout the series, male characters periodically describe her as the hottest woman in the hospital.
- Dr. Kelso believes that Elliot will end up in family practice or OB/GYN because she is female, displaying his sexist attitude. Conversely, it could also be a display of Kelso's belief that money is all that matters - He mentions, as does Elliot's father later, that her earning potential is highest in OB/GYN.
- Turk's religious beliefs are revealed to be very important to him.
- Jordan calls J.D. "Sally Sensitive;" she calls him Sally periodically throughout the show.
[edit] Trivia
- The title alludes to the line "your own personal Jesus" from the song Personal Jesus by Depeche Mode.
- This episode features the first onscreen appearance of the often mentioned but rarely seen Nurse Tisdale. The character's second appearance wouldn't be until Season Four with the episode "My Ocardial Infarction".
