MyFreeImplants is a website based on the social networking model along with an element of cyberbegging[1]. Founded in 2005 by Jason Grunstra[2], MyFreeImplants is an alternative to cosmetic surgery financing. MyFreeImplants users are segmented into two distinct groups; models & benefactors. Models participate on the website with the main goal of raising money to fund a breast augmentation procedure. Benefactors participate to meet the women on the site and to help them fund their plastic surgery through various means of online donations.
Each of the two users groups create a user profile which consists of a brief bio, a favorite quote, unlimited photos, and some basic stats such as age, height, weight and location. In addition to the standard user profile information, the models on the website can choose from various cosmetic surgery goals, the most popular of which are saline breast implants (default value $4000), and silicone breast implants (default value $5000).
The two user groups interact on the MyFreeImplants website via blogs, exchanging photos, and an internal messaging system. Benefactors can try out the site for free, but in order to interact with the models they need to purchase message credits for $1.25/credit. Once a benefactor has message credits in his account he can send messages, blog comments, and photo comments to individual models. Each time a benefactor messages a model 1 message credit is deducted from their account and $1.00 is placed into the models account that goes towards her plastic surgery goal. In addition, benefactors have the option to send a financial donation of any denomination to a model, which also goes towards her target amount. Once a model reaches her target amount, MyFreeImplants makes a payment in that amount to the cosmetic surgeon of the models choice.
In June of 2006, MyFreeImplants gave away a free breast augmentation to a winner of a random drawing at the 10th Anniversary of the Erotica-LA[3] convention in Los Angeles, California.
As of March 24, 2007, 18 women have reached their goals on the website and have received free breast implants via the MyFreeImplants website.
