The NASCAR Mexico Corona Series is a NASCAR series in Mexico. The series was originally the Desafio Corona Series, the largest stock car racing series in Mexico. NASCAR founded the series in 2004 in conjunction with OCESA, an entertainment company. The partnership between NASCAR and OCESA is now officially known as NASCAR Mexico.
Starting in 2007, NASCAR Mexico will sanction this series in conjunction with the NASCAR Mexico T4 Series.
The renamed series is expected to share NASCAR's regional-tiered series, along with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the two Grand National divisions, the Busch East Series and AutoZone West Series.
Following North American short-track racing trends to cut costs and unify rules among different tours, NASCAR is considering changes to the Canadian Tire and Corona Series where the two series adopt the Grand National rules in 2008 as to allow the competitors to use the same cars in Grand National races.
[edit] 2007 Schedule
The series kicked of the 2007 season at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, with a non-points-paying race during the weekend of March 4, along with events from the Busch Series and the Rolex Sports Car Series. The race was won by Carlos Pardo (#14 Citizen/Familly Dollar Dodge), followed by Rafael Martinez (#19 Canel's/Scotiabank Ford) and Freddy Tame (#18 Canel's/Scotiabank Ford).
The schedule will consist of 14 points-paying races after the Mexico City race, 10 of which will be double-feature events with the NASCAR Mexico T4 Series.
